There are many different Yorkie mixes out there. Some have been purposely bred, and others have happened when two dogs accidentally mate. Yorkies are tenacious, vocal, protective, and loyal dogs, and your Yorkie mix could inherit those traits, or they might have more traits from their other parent breed. If you're specifically looking to bring a Yorkie mix into your family, you'll need to manage your expectations on how your potential pup might look and act.
Considerations Before Adopting a Yorkie Mix
Yorkie mixes and designer breeds do not have the same consistency seen in purebred dogs. You will find a huge amount of variability with mixed-breed dogs. They can have different colors, coat types, sizes, and personalities. Believe it or not, siblings in a litter of puppies can look wildly different from each other, even when born to the exact same parents.
You might expect a Yorkie mix to be a 50/50 mix of traits from each parent breed, but genetics are more complicated than that. Knowing the traits of each of the parent breeds can give you a potential idea about how a Yorkie mix might look or act, but in the end, all Yorkie mixes are individuals and can be extremely unique.

Yorkipoo (Yorkie and Poodle Mix)

A Yorkipoo or Yorkie-poo is a mix between a Yorkshire terrier and a poodle (usually a toy poodle or miniature poodle). A Yorkipoo with a toy poodle parent is likely to be very small, typically less than 10 pounds, but Yorkipoos with a miniature poodle parent might be less than 10 pounds but could weigh as much as 20 pounds. Poodles are highly intelligent, affectionate, and eager to please, and Yorkipoos might inherit these traits. The coat might be straight and silky, curly, or wiry, and could be a good fit for people with allergies. Yorkipoos might be blue and tan like a Yorkie, or a poodle color, such as white, black, silver, brown, red, or apricot.

The Morkie is a cross between the Yorkshire terrier and Maltese. Because both parent breeds weigh about 7 pounds or less, Morkies are likely to be tiny. Intelligent, affectionate, and confident, the pure white Maltese is a little sweeter and a touch calmer than the Yorkie. Both breeds have similar low-shedding coats, and it might be straight and silky, soft and fluffy, or wavy. Morkies might be blue and tan like a Yorkie, white like a Maltese, or cream, tan, or white with tan spots.

A cross between a Yorkshire terrier and a shih tzu, the shorkie should be on the smaller side. Shi tzus are friendly, loving, easygoing dogs, and the shorkie might inherit that carefree personality. A shorkie might get the dense, double coat of the shih tzu or the silky single coat of the Yorkie, or something in between, and it will probably be low-shedding. Shorkies might be blue and tan like a Yorkie, or almost any other color or pattern as shih tzus are found in all colors.

Usually called a borkie, a Yorkshire terrier and beagle mix is likely to be closer to the medium size of a beagle. Both breeds enjoy using their voices, so borkies are likely to bark or bay to alert you to sounds or when they see people, animals, or just about anything interesting. Some borkies look more like Yorkies, some look more like beagles, and some might look nothing like either breed. The coat might be short, silky and straight, or even wiry. Coat color might be the blue and tan of the Yorkie, or any hound color such as red and white, lemon and white, tan and white, or tri-color.

A cross between a Yorkshire terrier and a bichon frise is called by different names, but some common ones include the Yorkie-chon, Yo-chon, or bichon Yorkie. Bichons weigh about 12 to 18 pounds, so a Yorkie-chon is likely to be a bit larger than a Yorkie. Bichons are playful, cheerful, and lively companions that enjoy learning and performing tricks, and Yorkie-chons might inherit these traits. Both breeds have hypoallergenic coats, so Yorkie-chons should also be hypoallergenic. The coat might be straight and silky like a Yorkie, curly and dense like a bichon, wavy, or even wiry. Yorkie-chons might inherit the Yorkie’s blue and tan coloration, but could also be solid white, cream, or tan.

The Chorkie is a mix between a Yorkshire terrier and a Chihuahua. Because both breeds are tiny, Chorkies are all but guaranteed to be dainty. Yorkies and Chihuahuas have similar sweet yet spicy personalities, so a Chorkie is likely to share those traits. The Chorkie’s coat is a toss up—it might be long and silky, soft and wavy, short, or wiry. Coat color might be blue and tan like a Yorkie, or almost any other color and pattern, with or without white markings.

Jorkies, or Yorkie Russels, are a cross between the Yorkshire terrier and the Jack Russell terrier. Jack Russells are small, so Jorkies should also be small, though they might be bigger than a Yorkie. These two breeds are both terriers, but Jack Russells are more intense and extreme in temperament, so Jorkies might inherit the Jack Russell’s high energy levels and tendency to chase small animals. The Jorkie’s hair coat might be long and silky, short, or—most likely—wiry.

Whether you call them a snorkie or a schnorkie, this cross between a Yorkshire terrier and a miniature schnauzer is adorable. Schnauzers share the Yorkie’s terrier-like traits, but schnauzers are a touch more intense. Snorkies are likely to be pretty small with low-allergy coats. The coat might be straight and silky, wiry, or soft and wavy. Snorkies might be blue and tan like a Yorkie, or a schnauzer color: salt and pepper, black and silver, or solid black.

The Yorkie-Pom is a small mix of the Yorkie and Pomeranian. Pomeranians are charming, lively, and smart, capable of learning fun tricks, and Yorkie-Poms might have a similar personality. The Pomeranian’s thick double coat is not hypoallergenic, so don’t count on a non-shedding coat. A Yorkie-Pom might get a fluffy coat like a Pom, or a silky single coat like a Yorkie, or something wavy or even wiry.
